De zeventienjarige Fatima is de jongste dochter in een Frans-Algerijns gezin. Als jonge vrouw bevindt ze zich op een keerpunt in haar leven en begint aan een alles veranderende, maar vaak eenzame verkenning van haar seksualiteit, haar geloof en haar identiteit. Met het einde van de middelbare school in zicht dreigt voor de lesbische Fatima de valkuil van een heteronormatief bestaan. Eenmaal studerend en gehuld in zwarte kleding ontmoet ze ’s avonds vrouwen onder een pseudoniem. Daarbij trekt ze een muur op die anderen buitensluit en haarzelf gevangen houdt. Maar dan ontmoet ze de verpleegster Ji-Na en wordt ze verliefd. La petite dernière (gebaseerd op de auto-fictionele roman van Fatima Daas uit 2020) is een kalme, krachtige overpeinzing over hoe lastig zelfacceptatie kan zijn.

The seventeen-year-old Fatima is the youngest daughter in a Franco-Algerian family. As a young woman, she finds herself at a crossroads in her life and embarks on a life-changing, yet often lonely exploration of her sexuality, her faith, and her identity. With the end of high school in sight, the lesbian Fatima is threatened by the pitfalls of a heteronormative existence. Once studying and clad in black clothing, she meets women at night under a pseudonym. In doing so, she builds a wall that excludes others and keeps herself trapped. But then she meets the nurse Ji-Na and falls in love. La petite dernière (based on the autofictional novel by Fatima Daas from 2020) is a calm, powerful reflection on how difficult self-acceptance can be.
